The Institute for Curriculum Services (ICS) is a non-profit project of the San Francisco-based Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA). ICS is dedicated to promoting accurate instructional materials about Jews, Judaism, and Israel. A national organization, ICS works with policymakers, education officials, educators, and publishers as the representative of the mainstream Jewish community. ICS partners with Jewish communities nationwide to review education standards, policies, and materials and to interact with publishers. ICS has broad support from the national Jewish community, which turns to ICS for advice on instructional materials and assistance with local textbook adoptions.
ICS offers all educators:
- Curriculum materials-ICS develops and disseminates curricula that reflect state standards relating to Jews, Judaism, Jewish History, and Israel.
- Teacher training-ICS provides training for teachers on these subjects at the elementary and secondary levels. Training takes place at various teacher conferences or as local in-service by arrangement with school districts.
- Consultation-ICS specialists are available to consult with educators on subject matter that falls within its areas of expertise.
- Referral-ICS refers inquires to appropriate resources.
